The Cowan boys cross country team had a historic day Saturday when they placed 3rd out of 12 teams in the Gold Division at the Delta Invite. The Blackhawks had 5 runners under 18:30 and 8 runners under 20 minutes for the first time in school history. Daniel Wright led the Blackhawks with a 17th place finish in a time of 17:58. This was a 1:09 PR, and it also broke the freshman 5K record previously held by junior Seth Combs. All 11 runners ran season best times, and 7 of the 11 runners ran their PR on Saturday.
The Cowan girls cross country team had its best race of the season placing 7th out of 10 teams, and narrowly missing a top 5 finish by 3 points at Saturday’s Delta Invite. Freshman Kaily Smith led the Blackhawks with a 21st place finish in a personal best time of 23:01. Sophomore Liz Clevenger finished close behind in 25th place. 5 out of the 7 girls ran season best times with 3 of the 7 runners having personal records on the day.
The Blackhawks will be back in action this Saturday when they travel to Blue River to compete in the MEC meet at 1 p.m.
