Cowan narrowly misses upset over unbeaten Elwood

The Blackhawks trailed just 29-24 with three minutes remaining in a 37-24 home loss to the undefeated Panthers on Monday night. Cowan's 1-2-2 zone stifled Elwood star guard Braelyn Norris throughout the evening, holding her to 14 points. Senior guard Elizabeth Sizemore scored eight points, all in the second half, and dished out four assists to lead the Blackhawks. Delanee Gillsespie (6 points), Savannah Hall (5), Madison Norris (4) and Regan Gill (1) rounded out the scoring for the Cowan varsity, which returns to action at Union for a 6 p.m. (varsity only) game Tuesday, Dec. 3, at Union. Cowan's junior varsity defeated Elwood 31-18 Monday at home as Corah Wright poured in 14 points and Abby Campbell added 11. Wright, who was celebrating her birthday, also had eight rebounds, four assists and six steals. Savannah Bowling added four points and Lexi Gluff scored a basket and led Cowan with nine rebounds. The JV plays two games -- at 1 and 2:30 p.m. -- Saturday at Shenandoah.
