Blackhawks prevail in thriller at Hagerstown

The Cowan varsity girls basketball team came from behind in the fourth quarter to win a classic barn burner 31-29 at Hagerstown Thursday night. Regan Gill made a key layup and Vannah Hall connected on two free throws in the fourth quarter and the Cowan defense clamped down on the Tigers in the last two minutes. Hall turned in an outstanding overall performance, scoring 16 points including a pair of three-pointers, grabbing 14 rebounds and blocking two shots. Despite facing a box-and-one defense most of the game designed to stop her, Elizabeth Sizemore drilled two three-pointers in the third quarter. Alyssa Stevens pitched in with a team-high five assists. The Cowan junior varsity lost, 38-27, despite 16 points and six steals from Corah Wright. Abby Campbell added five points and Khloe Shaw had a team-high eight rebounds. The JV returns to action with a 6 p.m. game Wednesday at Blue River. The varsity plays a 6 p.m. game at Blue River on Friday, Dec. 13.
