Two Cowan athletes earned the right to compete in next week’s regional cross country meet at the Muncie Sportsplex.
Lauren Smith continued her outstanding freshman season with another strong performance. Lauren’s fifth place finish is the highest for a female cross country runner from Cowan at a sectional meet since the IHSAA set the girls’ distance to 5000 meters.
Sophomore Preston White earned his way to the regional meet by virtue of his nineteenth place finish. Preston demonstrated his experience at the sectional meet by steadily improving his position during the race.
The Lady Blackhawks finished in seventh place as a team. Cowan did not field a complete girls team last year, so the seventh place finish is quite an achievement for the students who made it happen.
The boys team finished in eleventh place with only freshmen and sophomores competing. Junior Daniel Wright was out with an injury, and will be motivated to help improve the Blackhawks standing next season.
